Firefighters Challenge
August 10 – October 31, 2014
Be The Match is partnering with Oakland Firefighters Random Acts, San Francisco Firefighters Cancer Prevention Foundation and Bay Area Fire Departments (Albany, Berkeley, Contra Costa, El Cerrito, Oakland, Redwood City, Richmond, San Francisco, and San Jose) to launch the inaugural Firefighters Challenge.
The mission of the Be The Match Firefighters Challenge is to increase the number of marrow donors on the registry, raise funds to support patients and research, increase awareness and build community. This 8 week donor recruitment and fundraising competition kicks off August 10th. The Challenge will end on October 31st.
Due to occupational exposures, Firefighters have a known higher risk of developing cancer. By raising funds and recruiting marrow donors, Firefighters are supporting a cause that may one day save themselves or the life of a colleague. In addition, through this competition the local fire departments will engage community and build morale among our local heroes while serving the greater good.
