Oakland Firefighter’s Acts of Kindness In Life
Outshone Violent Act That Ended It
On August 17, 20
17, Oakland Firefighter Jake Walter tragically lost his life in a senseless act of violence. Jake was passionate about his Community and helping people. He was very involved as a volunteer for Oakland Firefighters Random Acts since February 2015.
To carry on Jake’s legacy of giving, the ‘Jake Walter Scholarship Fund’ has been established in his name. This fund will provide scholarships to deserving students in need who are pursuing careers in the field of Emergency Services such as EMT’s, Paramedics, and Firefighters. This is the same path taken by Jake in his effort to become
an Oakland Firefighter.
Many students have financial challenges along the way in pursuing their careers, including those that apply to the Chabot College Fire Technology Program who live below the poverty line. These scholarships
will assist students with their expenses along the way to fulfilling their goal and help pay for uniforms, gear, books, fees, tuition or professional testing to help them meet the requirements to become a Firefighter. The formation of a mentorship program is also being planned for all recipients to help them better understand the expectations and requirements of the path they have chosen. Your donation will help to make it possible for these students to achieve their dreams and become part of the family of First Responders.

Jake Walter Homecoming
On Friday, August 18, 2017, Jake’s family and friends traveled down to San Jose to bring Jake home to Oakland. In a show of support, every fire department between San Jose and Oakland honored Jake from every overpass along the way.
