Our mission is to enhance the
quality of life for individuals who have or are affected by insulin-dependent
diabetes. This is accomplished by showing children with diabetes
that they can live full and productive lives by learning how
to manage and control their diabetes, rather than letting the
diabetes control their lives.
Founded in 1938 by Mary B. Olney,
M.D., as a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, the Diabetic
Youth Foundation was created to provide recreational and educational
experiences for children with diabetes. It was Dr. Olney's vision
to teach children with diabetes how to live healthy lives. These
goals are accomplished through the annual Bearskin Meadow Camp
for diabetic children and their parents. However, our commitment
doesn't end there.
In addition to the camp, the
Diabetic youth Foundation also provides year-round information
and referral services to families with children who are diagnosed
with diabetes throughout California.
