Critical Incident Stress Management

Random Acts of Reading

Random Acts would like to encourage Oakland Firefighters to participate in the Random Acts of Reading program by volunteering to read to students at an Oakland Public School in your fire station's district. It only takes about 1/2 hour of your time to make a difference in a child's life. Firefighters can serve as a positive role models and inspire children to succeed and be productive citizens in the community. To volunteer, contact Random Acts.

Books and Balls Program

Recommend a School in Your District

Firefighters: If you would like to recommend a school in your Fire Station District to be a recipient of the Books and Balls Program, we'd like to hear from you. Random Acts will donate the books, and firefighters from your station will write inspiring messages to the children on the inside covers of the books. Random Acts will purchase the balls that are loaded into the cab of the fire engine. Your crew will drive onto the playground field with sirens blaring and surprise the kids when they open the door and you toss the balls out to them. To recommend a school, call or e-mail Random Acts.

Corporate Sponsors: If your corporation would like to sponsor a Books and Balls Program at an Oakland Public School, call or e-mail Random Acts.

Computer Donation

If you know of a school or organization in need of a computer, call or e-mail Random Acts.

Request A Random Act of Kindness Or Nominate A Citizen Hero

Firefighters: We encourage you to submit a Request for a Random Act of Kindness if you are out in the community or responding to a call and encounter someone who needs a helping hand. You have the opportunity to create a positive difference in the life of an individual and create a positive memory for yourself.

Nominate a Citizen Hero when you encounter someone who performs a courageous and selfless act to help another person. It is important that we recognize our silent unsung heroes who would otherwise go unnoticed.

Random Act Request Forms are available at every fire station. Call our office at (510) 465-8422, send us an e-mail, or contact a Random Acts Board Director.
